“Museums on the Move” Centennial Conference
November 7, 2018 - November 9, 2018
The NEMA Conference. It’s outlasted 16 U.S. presidents, two world wars, moon shots, pet rocks, and the Disco craze. Since 1919, thousands and thousands of museum professionals have gained new insights, inspiration, and friendships at the NEMA Conference. There’s something to be said for tradition like that.
Panel Organizer: “The Outsiders: Makers & Creatives Working with History Outside the Museum”
Description of my panel:
In this demonstration, the history of New Haven, Connecticut is seen through the makers and creatives who work outside of the museums proper, bringing fresh perspectives, new forms of presentation and are unencumbered by the perceived neutrality and/or formality of the museum environment. Showing off their creativity and talent, a group of artists, collectors, writers, and makers will demonstrate the value of non-academic /non-traditional engagement with history out of the museum, perhaps helping to break down the walls between those who are recognized as history practitioners and those who are not.
